Publishing patterns takes a tremendous amount of time. After deciding I was going to dabble in this world of knitting patterns again, I’ve been sitting with it and asking myself what I want out of this process. Setting intentions for myself to come back to when choosing what projects to pursue and which to set aside. (And even asking myself, “Do you really want to do this again? Are you sure? But WHY?”)
Recently I was helping a friend knit her first sweater. I was so excited to help her take this exciting step and make something she is excited to wear. Helping her in this way was an absolute joy for me, and truly the feeling I’m after in publishing knitting patterns. (I am a teacher through and through, and I guess the joy of helping others make, learn and grow is very ingrained in me.) My hope and intention in dusting off Thread & Ladle Knits, is to support other knitters where I can. To help others make something they are proud of, love, and really want to wear (or gift). It’s the thing I need to pin my choices to moving forward. There is very little ‘extra’ time in my life and I will need to be choosy about the projects I choose. Pursuing projects that share ideas and help YOU get excited about what you’re making. (While also giving myself lots of space to play and enjoy knitting for pleasure!)
Naturally, there is also a great deal of creative fulfillment for myself too, otherwise it wouldn’t be worth doing. I had forgotten how much I love the whole process- coming up with an idea, figuring it out, choosing colors, doing MATH(!), photographing it, laying it out! It all fulfills me in a very different way than my role as Mom and Teacher.
With those things in mind, I have a few ideas that I am very excited to start working on. These will take a long time. As they should. Because this is hand knitting we’re talking about. It’s not a race. I’m not interested in manically publishing in order to sell you another idea. I really want to take time to make things that not only serve you, but that I am proud of. I invite you to follow along. Sign up for my newsletter. Follow on Instagram. Comment, let me know what you need and want. Tell me what lights YOU up creatively, what skills YOU are excited to learn.
I look forward to making things together.
